Instant Replay in Sports: Advantages and Disadvantages

Instant replay is used in sports to take a second look at close plays.

Advantages;

1. The referees can get the calls right.
2. The teams can use the time that the referees take to review the play as a time out.
3. If it is difficult to determine the result of the play even with video evidence, the replay official will always go with the call on the field to avoid controversy.
4. Instant replay can be used to determine the outcome of an important game.
5. Instant replay can also be used to determine if there were any penalties.

Disadvantges:

1. Instant replay can cause a lot of controversy.
2. It is not used the same way in each sport.
3. Only in some sports can a coach ask to review a play.
4. The review of a play is determined by the league officials.
5. The governing oganizations of the particular sport have the power to review certain plays after the games.
